This month I was invited to speak at the United Way World Wide Summit in New Orleans. It was truly an honor to share the stage with fellow philanthropists and discuss ways to engage young professionals and millennials. As most of you know, I am pretty involved in Miami and love to give back to the community whenever I can. When the United Way of Miami-Dade called with an invitation to speak at their worldwide summit – I jumped all over it.
I was a ball of nerves before the event and of course the inevitable question kept lingering – WHAT TO WEAR?! Luckily my friend Romina from Tom James came to the rescue. The beauty of Tom James is that they create custom suits so every piece is designed just for you. Romina helped me create the perfect look for my panel discussion. She knew I was really nervous and stepped in to help calm me down… and drink some wine while we planned my outfit.
A custom Tom James blue mohair skirt suit was the basic start to this look. The suit was professional yet trendy, which is important when you are in marketing. Keeping my individuality is important to me (and millennials) so a stuffy look wouldn’t suffice. Rolled up sleeves and bold jewelry is a staple in my work attire, so this event would be no different.
Accessories are important to any look! Keep the look chic and effortless with classics like pearls and gold to make sure you make a statement without looking too flashy.
The look transitioned easily to the evening. I kept the blouse and threw on my favorite pair of J Brand denim. Dark blue skinny jeans should be a staple in any travel wardrobe – they easily transition from day to night.
New Orleans has chilly nights and in true Miami girl form, I wanted to bundle up because I rarely get to use my favorite winter gear. I swapped the blazer for a wool coat. Mine is an oldie from Banana Republic but here is my dream Burberry Wool Coat. Isn’t it a dream?
This trio does wonders for repairing post flight skin – the dry air from the plane always kills my skin.
