Rock Art Basel Like a Local: A guide to Miami Art Week & Art Basel 2014

Art Basel Miami - Brickellista Files

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  I’m not talking about Cyber Monday or the holidays… today officially kicks off Art Basel in Miami and that is something that brings joy to my world. Whether you are looking to explore something outside the beaten path or roam the convention center like a #boss, I have a sampling of Art Basel events just for you. Here is my list – and you don’t have to check it twice.

The sister fair to Art Miami, Context, is dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists. Eighty international galleries, vetted by the CONTEXT Selection Committee, exhibit highlights from their gallery programs, solo artist exhibitions and curated projects. The combined efforts of CONTEXT and Art Miami provide a unique and alternative opportunity for leading primary dealers and their artists to be marketed and promoted internationally during the most important week for contemporary art in America.

VH1 + SCOPE Party

One of my favorite events of Miami Art Week is the VH1 and SCOPE annual party. This year the party will feature interactive works by artist and calligrapher Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, who will hand-paint hundreds of feet of Japanese synthetic paper. Danish singer-songwriter Nabiha will perform and Swizz Beatz will DJ. The collaborations are pretty cool and I suggest you meet me there.
