You know what makes or breaks any outfit? Hair. Bad hair equals bad day overall – at least for me because I’m pretty vain. And summer in Miami is the worst season for hair because one thing is certain – unpredictable summer showers that inevitably lead to crazy frizzy hair. Most locals have tried every trick and product to tame their locks and often end up resembling Tina Turner.
But never fear! René Furterer has partnered with Brickellista Files to create a luxury give-a-way for your locks. Woo! I love hair products and am giddy to share my favorite looks straight from the Indah, Gottex, and Luli Fama runways during Miami Swim Week. They are easy to replicate and will look great paired with a bikini or sleek suit.
I stepped backstage and met with the RenéFurterer hair team and lead hairstylist Gia Tovar of Marianne Strokirk Salon in Chicago to discuss the latest summer looks. This season it’s all about untamed beauty, which makes this hair trend the perfect way to combat the summer storms.
Braid me Baby!
One of my favorite looks from the runway was the Sea Siren Braid which Gia created for Profile Blush by Gottex. To prep the hair for braiding she sprayed clean, dry hair with René Furterer VOLUMEA conditioning spray, which gives body to the hair. Next, using a blow-dryer with a nozzle attachment she rough-dried the hair at the roots to give the hair lift and volume. The hair gets a misting of René Furterer NATURIA dry shampoo at the roots to add texture and for extra volume. After creating the fishtail braid the look was sealed with a final misting of René Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY for natural hold. I love this messy sexy braid because it is perfect for Miami summers.
At Indah, a seductive take on the classic French braid hit the runway for a Rock Chic Meets Mad Max look. Celebrity hairstylist Adrien Flammier of Atelier Emmanuel Salon in San Francisco created the French braid by using different-sized sections to make it imperfect – some pieces were small, some were thicker, and others were twisted. He kept the hair tight on the inside and then gently roughed up the surface for a messy effect. I love the braid look because it is an easy transition from the beach to the office.
Sleek and Sexy!
The wet look is back and this sexy glamorous style debut on the runway of the Gottex collection. This look is perfection for the Miami woman on the go. “She’s been in the sun and looks like she just got out of the pool,” says Gia, “the hair is wet and sleek but sophisticated, not at all flat, with a bit of lift at the roots.” The secret weapon? To keep hair looking moist and frizz free, layer in René Furterer LISSEA leave-in smoothing fluid from root to ends, concentrating mostly on the ends. This keeps the hair soft and keeps it from looking ‘crunchy’. If needed, add René Furterer FIORAVANTI shine enhancing no rinse detangling spray to give hair the wet sheen.
Boho Chic Look
At Luli Fama it was all about the Free-Spirited Boho Look with Unperfected Curls and Waves. Lead stylist Adrien Flammier of Atelier Emmanuel Salon in San Francisco created the look with René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray – no rinse to create fullness and texture. He used a diffuser (remember those things?!) to rough-dry the hair and create volume. For the models that needed a bit more volume, René Furterer VEGETAL MOUSSE was applied to the crown, saturating the mousse into the roots. Boho Chic never looked so sexy!
