Whoever said Miami doesn’t get good music clearly never leaves their house. Miami has a wide range of music with with influences from the countries that make our City the beautiful and rich melting pot that it is today. There are hidden gems all around Miami curating artists from all around the globe to fill our nights with unique sounds and vibes. If you haven’t yet explored the underground music scene in Miami you are surely missing out, but my job is to help make your time in Miami as culturally rich as the flavor in our foods.
So turn off your #basic playlist, step outside your bubble, and come explore one of my favorite destinations for live music (and cocktails) – the W Hotel Living Room SpeakerBox Series.
The W SpeakerBox is a live music program featuring intimate performances by celebrated artists from a variety of international genres. Every Thursday evening the Living Room Lounge comes alive weekly with an eclectic mix of aural pleasures and curated performances from the worlds of jazz, pop, R&B, soul, funk, electronic and more, capped off with a live DJ set. The intimate setting makes you feel like you are in one of the swanky jazz clubs of the past. Surprisingly the Living Room lounge has nice acoustics for a live band, so this series is the perfect way to enjoy the stellar tunes.
I had the chance to interview one of the celebrated musicians, Karina Iglesias, during her performance at the SpeakerBox. Karina is a Miami local who was a contestant on The Voice, and her stellar voice, made it through 16 performances on the show. Karina’s style is perfectly suited for the intimate space of the SpeakerBox. Her balance of rhythm & blues, boleros, gospel and hip-hop allows her to deliver performances with the intimacy of a deep soul crooner and the conviction and drive of a dauntless female singer/songwriter. Can we say Etta James? She is inspired by her grandmother, who was by her side during her time on The Voice. The W Hotel SpeakerBox series allows for artists such as Karina to engage with audiences and explore their talent while keeping their true individuality on the stage.
In turn the SpeakerBox series gives locals the opportunity to explore new sounds in an intimate setting. There is nothing sweeter than that!
The Performances kick off at 8:30pm and for two hours you will be surrounded by the coolest group of locals and music aficionados in town. And the best part, the talented mixologists at Living Room Bar will craft signature cocktails for the evening. Take my tip – don’t order off the cocktail menu instead ask the mixologist to create something just for you- I always ask for a little spice in my drink! Snacks are also available from Living Room’s exclusive menu by Conor Hanlon, executive chef of Andrew Carmellini’s award-winning American restaurant at W South Beach, The Dutch.
Impress your friends this week with your new musical find and check out the next SpeakerBox Series event.
